Photojournalism: More than a photograph

A warm welcome for all of those who are coming to my site via Scott Kelby.

I was given a quite an opportunity to share my heart for visual storytelling and photojournalism when I was asked to be one of the weekly guest bloggers for Photoshop guru, trainer, and accomplished author Scott Kelby. I want to give a huge "thank you" to Brad Moore who works on Kelby's team for the generous invitation & honor to share anything my little heart desired about photography on such a well read blog.

For my friends, clients, and regulars, I hope you enjoy the blog post which gives a big-picture look at my thoughts on the power of relationship and the ability for photojournalism to impact lives.

  1. Garrett!
Great blog on photojournalism. You definitely surprised me when you started talking about how Jesus loves us and how we should be moved to action as a result. It's refreshing to have you share above and beyond your professional life.

  2. Dear Garrett,

Great blog post, really great. You may not remember but we met when you were photographing the Swithibank/Ro wedding in SC in Dec 2007; Victoria is my wife's sister, I saw and I loved the shots you took, looked up the blog and have followed it ever since. Great stuff, and as a Christian myself, I am really encouraged by the gospel mindset that you clearly have to your work. Keep up the good work.

Ps - also pleased to see that you came to photography late, and that it was some time before you realised that you had this degree of creativity. Gives the rest of us a little hope!

  3. What a blessing those responses were to your guest blog post!? I am always trying to know my audience better (learn French, study the Koran and Islamic/West African history), but with your audience it is nearly impossible... it's like... English speaking people... or people with functioning eyes. Guess that makes you really dependent on God to speak beyond your abilities. What a great place to be. Keep striving!

  4. Wow G, great job telling your story. Jess and I watched the video from Louisiana State Prison, and were drying our eyes afterward. What a gift you have with words and images...and I hear your voice through it even when you don't say a word through the whole thing.
